Sundt Breaks Ground on $92M Pecan Creek Water Reclamation Expansion in Denton, Texas

Sundt Construction has begun work on the $92 million Pecan Creek Water Reclamation Plant expansion in Denton, Texas, following a guaranteed maximum price contract awarded by the city in February. The Tempe, Arizona-based firm will build a 75-million-gallon-per-day headworks facility and a 30-million-gallon-per-day buildout using membrane bioreactor technology, alongside underground utility upgrades within the original plant footprint. Texas regional manager Matt Bothun said strategic phasing will keep the existing facility fully operational during construction. The expansion aims to support Denton's growth, with the city's population projected to exceed 200,000 by 2030, up from 150,000 in the 2020 census. Texas water infrastructure spending has accelerated over the past year, including Ferrovial's $721 million in Austin and Fort Worth projects and Crescent Constructors' $89 million Lewisville treatment plant expansion in June.
