Supreme Court Ruling May Make Human Freight Brokers More Valuable as AI Adoption Grows

A unanimous Supreme Court decision in Montgomery v. Caribe Transport II has raised broker liability exposure and could increase demand for human freight brokers, according to Beth Carroll, CEO of the Prosperio Group, speaking at the Logisyn Advisors M&A Club conference in Naperville, Illinois. Carroll said brokers facing negligence claims after crashes will need humans behind booking decisions, giving "pro-human" weight to brokerage employment. "You're going to need to have human beings that are behind that decision," she said, adding that AI-assisted choices are unlikely to survive courtroom scrutiny. The ruling stripped a long-standing defense against negligence claims. Carroll also warned that rising AI-driven productivity could inflate payouts under straight-commission plans, requiring what she called an "adjustment factor" as productivity rises. Also at the conference, AllStates World Cargo President Kendra Tanner announced the company is being acquired by Eve Partners.
