Intel's (INTC) next-generation 14A process is being evaluated by Amazon (AMZN), Apple, AMD (AMD), Google (GOOGL), Tesla (TSLA), Microsoft (MSFT), Nvidia (NVDA) and Qualcomm (QCOM) as the industry seeks alternatives to TSMC (2330-TW), according to a Piper Sandler investment report. Piper Sandler views Intel's 14A progress positively, noting defect density (D0) fell to 0.5 as of June 2026, with Intel targeting 0.1-0.2 by Q1 2027. CFO David Zinsner said the improvement pace is the fastest since the 22nm era in 2012. TSMC capacity is expected to remain tight until at least 2028, pushing chipmakers toward Samsung (005930KS) and Intel. Trump administration pressure to onshore manufacturing has also bolstered Intel's candidacy. Intel plans risk production of 14A in Q2 2027 and mass production in Q1 2028. CEO Lip-Bu Tan has said expansion of the foundry business requires firm 14A orders first. Intel raised about $15 billion in August, later increased to $20 billion.
