Genentech, Ionis Report Positive Interim Phase III Data for Sefaxersen in IgA Nephropathy

Genentech, a unit of Roche Holding AG (RHHBY, RO.SW, ROG.SW), and partner Ionis Pharmaceuticals Inc. (IONS) announced on Sept. 23, 2026, positive prespecified interim results from the ongoing Phase III IMAgINATION study evaluating the investigational drug sefaxersen in patients with IgA nephropathy, a chronic kidney disease. The companies said the interim data met prespecified criteria, supporting continuation of the trial. Specific efficacy and safety figures, including proteinuria reduction and estimated glomerular filtration rate outcomes, were not disclosed in the initial announcement. IgA nephropathy, also known as Berger's disease, affects the kidneys and can progress to end-stage renal failure. Sefaxersen is an antisense medicine designed to reduce production of galactose-deficient IgA1, a key driver of the disease. Ionis developed the compound; Genentech leads late-stage development and commercialization under the collaboration.
