Colombia’s consumer prices rose 0.47% in May 2026, the national statistics agency DANE said on June 5, coming in below the 0.55% median forecast from a Reuters poll and signaling some relief after aggressive monetary tightening. Housing, water, electricity and gas costs led the advance, climbing 0.86%, while recreation and culture added 0.77% and transportation 0.61%. Food prices, the index’s heaviest component, dipped 0.02%, muting the overall monthly gain. The 12-month inflation rate eased to 5.84% from 5.05% a year earlier, still well above the central bank’s 3% long-term target. The central bank lifted its benchmark interest rate by a cumulative 200 basis points between January and March, bringing it to 11.25%, then held steady at its April meeting. Policymakers have flagged caution as year-to-date inflation through May reached 4.36%, versus 3.63% in the same period of 2025.
