IRS Begins Notices on Saver's Match Replacing Saver's Credit in 2027
The IRS has started mailing notices to taxpayers who claimed the Saver's Credit on their 2025 returns or whose 2025 income falls within the eligibility range for the new Saver's Match, which takes effect with the 2027 tax year. The Saver's Match, created under the SECURE 2.0 Act of 2022, replaces the Saver's Credit and provides matching retirement contributions of up to $1,000 annually per person ($2,000 for joint filers) from the Treasury Department. Single filers with modified adjusted gross income of $20,500 or less in 2027 qualify for a 50% match on up to $2,000 of contributions. The match phases out at $35,500 for single filers, $71,000 for joint filers and $53,250 for heads of household. The notices require no immediate action. In April, President Donald Trump signed an executive order directing Treasury to create TrumpIRA.gov by early 2027 to help workers compare qualifying IRAs.
