The International Monetary Fund said on October 1, 2026, it will continue discussions with Argentina over the coming weeks to reach a staff-level agreement on the third review of the country's extended fund facility program. An IMF technical mission visited Buenos Aires from September 21-29 as part of the talks, said Julie Kozack, Director of the IMF's Communications Department. She noted Argentina has made significant progress in restoring macroeconomic stability, citing a sharp decline in inflation, strengthened external position through reserve accumulation, and a fiscal shift from deficit to surplus. IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva expressed confidence in July in President Javier Milei's economic reforms and the country's ability to manage a debt repayment crunch next year. Kozack said both sides recognize the need to continue strengthening Argentina's resilience, with growth currently concentrated in energy, mining and agriculture needing to broaden across sectors.
