Asian Stocks Rise on Tech Rally, Lower Oil; Dollar Firm on Rate-Hike Bets
Asian equities climbed Tuesday as technology shares rallied, Brent crude steadied below $100 a barrel and investors anticipated a US-China summit later this week. MSCI's broadest Asia-Pacific index outside Japan rose over 1%; South Korea gained nearly 2% and Taiwan 1.3%. Brent traded at $100.22 after dropping over 3% in the prior session. President Trump said he would be open to meeting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian at the UN General Assembly, easing geopolitical risk and pushing bond yields lower. The dollar held near a seven-week high, supported by hawkish signals from the Federal Reserve and other central banks. The yen weakened to 157.39 per dollar, near a three-week low, after the Bank of Japan's rate hike failed to deliver explicit tightening guidance. CME FedWatch showed traders pricing a 56% chance of an October Fed hike, up from 43.5% a week earlier.
