Meta's Muse AI Agent Tops App Store; Amazon Blocks Access, Shares Rise 10%

Meta's personal AI agent Muse surpassed 2.5 million U.S. downloads since its September 8 launch and claimed the No. 1 free app slot on Apple's App Store as of Monday, beating OpenAI's ChatGPT. The surprise success lifted Meta (META) shares more than 10% on Monday before slipping 1% to $736.60 on Tuesday. Amazon blocked Muse from its platform Monday, alleging the agent captured and stored customer credentials without identifying itself as an AI bot. "Third-party applications that offer to make purchases on behalf of customers from other businesses should operate openly," an Amazon spokesperson said. Meta did not respond to comment requests; its launch announcement said credentials go into secure storage and Muse has no visibility into passwords or payment methods. Shopify CEO Tobias Lütke announced a partnership enabling agentic checkout via Shop Pay across all Shopify stores. Muse offers a free basic plan, with premium subscriptions up to $100 monthly.
