Meta's Muse AI Agent Tops App Store as Amazon Blocks Access

Meta Platforms' new AI agent app, Muse, has unseated ChatGPT as the top free app on Apple's App Store, marking the company's first major consumer AI agent push. The app, powered by Meta's Muse Spark AI model, autonomously handles tasks including booking appointments, shopping, and managing calendars on users' behalf. Amazon blocked Muse from accessing its online store, stating that unauthorized AI agent access violates its Conditions of Use and that Meta never requested permission. Meta, which announced a Shopify partnership for some Muse shopping features, did not immediately comment. The dispute highlights rising tensions over agentic AI access to commerce platforms. Amazon's advertising-driven model faces disruption from agents that bypass human browsing. Amazon previously sued Perplexity over similar access issues and lost a Ninth Circuit ruling in that case. Muse's success provides a needed win for Meta in the AI arena following competitive struggles against OpenAI and Anthropic.
