Meta's Threads surpasses 500M monthly active users, launches new community and personalization features

Meta Platforms (META) announced Tuesday, June 16, 2026, that its social platform Threads has exceeded 500 million monthly active users (MAU) globally. The company concurrently launched several new features, including the official rollout of its "Communities" function and "Your Algo" for personalized content recommendations, aiming to enhance user engagement and platform experience. Threads attributed its rapid expansion to diverse interest-based communities, such as books, basketball, and music. The platform is piloting "Local Communities" in Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan, supporting local language-based discussions. Additionally, the "Your Algo" feature, initially available in the U.S., Canada, UK, Australia, and New Zealand, allows users to specify desired content exposure for durations of 1, 3, or 7 days, with settings visible only to them.
