Meta Tests Human Concierge for AI Assistant Muse, Raising Privacy Concerns

Meta Platforms (META-US) is testing a "human concierge" feature in which human contractors discreetly place some calls on behalf of its new personal AI assistant, Muse, according to internal posts seen by Reuters. The test was disclosed to employees shortly after Muse launched its phone-calling capability, with some staff warning users could unknowingly share sensitive information with outside contractors. Spokesperson Daniel Roberts said employee response has been "extremely positive" and the test aims to gather feedback before any public rollout, which would include safety and privacy safeguards and proper disclosures. Meta said the feature will only launch once fully ready. Muse has topped U.S. app download charts in its first two weeks, surpassing 2.5 million downloads, per Sensor Tower. Users can have Muse call U.S. businesses to book appointments, check inventory or request quotes, then receive in-app call summaries and transcripts. About half of Meta employees enabled the concierge test last week; staff can opt out.
