Micron Reportedly Ends 2GB GDDR7 Production, Tightening Nvidia RTX 50 Memory Supply

Micron Technology (MU) has reportedly discontinued its 2GB (16Gb) GDDR7 graphics memory dies, listing the part as end-of-life on its website, according to hardware leaker unikoshardware. The chips debuted on Nvidia (NVDA) GeForce RTX 50-series cards in late February, briefly expanding the supplier base to three. Micron holds roughly 10% of GDDR7 supply, and its exit would leave Samsung (KR005930) and SK Hynix (000660KS) as primary suppliers for the RTX 50 line, potentially tightening already constrained consumer GPU memory supply. The move likely reflects capacity allocation toward higher-margin HBM for AI data centers, which consumes more wafer resources than standard DRAM. Micron continues plans for a 3GB (24Gb) die, already in mass production, though current RTX 50 boards cannot adopt it without PCB and memory-bus redesigns. Micron's roadmap shifts GDDR7 focus to 24Gb output in 2026-2027.
