Höegh Evi and Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS) signed an agreement on September 30, 2026, to develop the Kuching LNG Terminal, a floating import facility intended to supply natural gas for power generation and industrial growth in the Malaysian state of Sarawak. The project, part of the wider Kuching Low-Carbon Hub, is expected to deliver first gas by the end of 2029, with the companies evaluating whether the schedule can be accelerated. It will include a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), mooring facilities, subsea and onshore pipelines, and gas receiving infrastructure, to be jointly developed, owned and operated. The terminal is designed to supply gas around Kuching amid rising electricity demand, and to offer small-scale LNG distribution, truck loading, bunkering, storage and reloading services. PETROS became Sarawak's sole gas aggregator effective February 2024 and leads the Sarawak Gas Roadmap. For Höegh Evi, formerly Höegh LNG and taken private in 2021, the project adds another FSRU deployment.
