The Nasdaq Composite rose 0.45% to 27,244.28 on September 22, 2026, its second consecutive record close, as AI-linked chip stocks extended gains. The S&P 500 finished nearly flat at 7,764.64, within 0.5% of its August 13 record, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.36% to 51,863.69. Micron Technology (MU) jumped 5% and SanDisk (SNDK) gained nearly 7% after Meta Platforms (META) launched AI assistant Muse, which can send emails and complete transactions. The tool's advance into consumer services pressured platform stocks: Uber (UBER) and Lyft (LYFT) fell over 1%, Airbnb (ABNB) dropped 3%, and Charles Schwab (SCHW) slid 6.1%. Amazon (AMZN) barred Muse from shopping on its platform on September 21. Oil hovered near $100 a barrel and the 10-year Treasury yield traded around 4.94%. Traders priced a 53% probability of a Fed rate hike of at least 25 basis points in October, per CME FedWatch.
