Nasdaq Notches First Record Close Since June as AI Rally Lifts Tech; Futures Steady
U.S. equity futures held near flat early Tuesday after the Nasdaq Composite closed at a record for the first time since June, powered by a technology and AI-led rally. The Nasdaq gained 2.3% on Monday. The S&P 500 rose 1.5%, its best single-session advance since Aug. 4, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 366 points, or 0.7%. Ahead of Tuesday's open, S&P 500 futures hovered near breakeven, Nasdaq-100 futures edged up 0.1% and Dow futures added 112 points, or 0.2%. Falling crude prices supported sentiment. Brent slipped about 2% to roughly $98 a barrel and U.S. crude fell 2.6% to $93.28 after reports that Iran offered to reopen the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for lifting the U.S. blockade, and that Saudi Arabia restored the East-West pipeline. The 10-year Treasury yield traded around 4.93%. Investors are watching a Washington summit between President Donald Trump and China's Xi Jinping on AI, tariffs and rare earths, plus Trump's UN address Tuesday.
