Aldi Cuts Prices on One-Third of Products, Targets $86 Million in Shopper Savings

Aldi announced fall price reductions on Wednesday covering roughly one-third of its regularly stocked products, a move the grocer estimates will save shoppers $86 million and push prices below year-ago levels. The cuts took effect September 23 at stores nationwide and run through at least November 3. Discounted items include seasonal produce such as Autumncrisp grapes, Bartlett pears, Brussels sprouts, butternut and spaghetti squash, garlic, French beans, apples and potatoes. Honeycrisp apples are priced at $1.99 per pound, down 35% year over year and the lowest everyday price in over five years. Kirkwood chicken breast family packs also sell for $1.99 per pound, their lowest since 2022. The reductions extend prior cuts on coffee, mixed nuts, dried fruit and paper towels, as U.S. grocers compete for budget-conscious shoppers. Bureau of Labor Statistics data showed August grocery prices up 2.2% year over year, with fresh fruit and beef rising 3.8% and 5.9%. Aldi operates more than 2,600 U.S. stores.
