Anthropic Files for Confidential IPO, Surpasses OpenAI in Valuation

Anthropic filed confidential paperwork with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on June 1, 2026, to pursue an initial public offering, moving ahead of rival OpenAI. The number of shares and price range have not been set. The filing comes shortly after the AI startup disclosed it raised $65 billion in a late-May funding round, pushing its valuation to $965 billion. That figure exceeds OpenAI's $852 billion valuation from a March funding round. Anthropic's rapid growth has been driven by enterprise demand for its Claude Code coding software, which has become a key revenue driver.
