EDF, Mistral AI Partner on Sovereign AI Tools for Nuclear Fleet

EDF (EDF.PA) and Mistral AI said May 29, 2026, they will collaborate on conversational artificial intelligence tools for the utility’s nuclear operations, reinforcing France’s push to pair its nuclear revival with domestic AI capabilities. The tools, which search technical knowledge across EDF’s nuclear fleet and construction sites, will assist field teams, maintenance, engineering and construction of next-generation EPR2 reactors. EDF retains full data ownership, and the systems will be hosted on sovereign cloud or EDF data centers, expressly excluding any use in reactor control systems. The partnership underscores growing European concerns over data sovereignty in critical energy infrastructure, positioning Mistral as a flagship alternative to U.S. and Chinese AI platforms.
