Ex-Anduril Engineer's Layup Parts Raises $42M Series A for Composite Manufacturing

Layup Parts, a Huntington Beach, California-based composite manufacturing startup, announced Tuesday it raised $42 million in Series A funding. The round was led by dual-use venture fund Marlinspike, with participation from Cerberus Ventures, Pinegrove Venture Partners, and existing backers Founders Fund and LUX Capital. Founded in 2024 by former Anduril engineer Zack Eakin, the 60-employee company aims to automate and speed up custom carbon fiber and fiberglass part production, targeting an Amazon-like ordering experience. The startup, which previously raised a $9 million seed round, will use the new capital to grow its workforce and move into a larger facility later this year. Eakin, who also held engineering roles at The Boring Company and Chip Ganassi Racing, said the company has already reduced the time from receiving customer data to manufacturing a part from weeks to hours for aerospace, defense, and motorsports clients.
