Freeman Health System Acquires Northwest Health, Enters Arkansas

Joplin, Missouri–based Freeman Health System completed its acquisition of Northwest Health, effective June 1, 2026, marking the nonprofit’s first expansion into Arkansas. The deal brings the regional provider into the competitive northwest Arkansas healthcare market, though financial terms were not disclosed. The acquisition positions Freeman to extend its footprint beyond its existing Missouri and Kansas operations, adding Northwest Health’s hospitals and clinics to its network. The move comes amid ongoing consolidation in the U.S. hospital sector as mid-sized systems seek scale to manage rising costs and improve bargaining power with insurers. Northwest Health, which operates facilities in and around Springdale, Arkansas, will now operate under the Freeman Health umbrella. The transition is expected to maintain current services while integrating clinical and operational systems over the coming months.
