Hong Kong Stock Market Poised to Halt Losing Streak as Futures Advance

Hong Kong’s stock market was poised to end its recent losing streak on Thursday, with Hang Seng Index futures pointing to a higher open after three consecutive sessions of declines. The benchmark had shed 1.8% over that period as a dearth of catalysts and simmering global trade tensions weighed on investor sentiment. Index futures rose 0.8%, signaling that bargain buying had emerged after the Hang Seng touched its lowest level in more than a week. The move mirrored a positive lead from U.S. equities, where tech stocks rallied overnight. Trading volumes were expected to be subdued ahead of U.S. inflation data due Friday, a key input for Federal Reserve policy expectations. The potential upturn would give the market its first gain of the week.
