Samworth Brothers Flags Weight-Loss Drug Impact on Pork Pie Demand

Samworth Brothers, the £1.8bn British food group behind Melton Mowbray pork pies, warned that appetite-suppressing weight-loss drugs are reshaping customer demand, according to recently filed accounts. The company said it is monitoring the growing use of GLP-1 medications and developing new products as eating habits shift. The company cited fat jabs among a "demanding but navigable set of challenges" in fiscal 2025. Research firm Worldpanel by Numerator found 1.9 million UK adults used weight-loss medication in 2026, up from prior year levels, with households containing a user spending £418 less on groceries. Despite the warning, Samworth Brothers reported revenue rose 8pc to £1.8bn, with operating profit increasing to £65.6m from £61.6m. Chairman Mark Samworth attributed the performance to a long-term, family-owned approach, while criticizing new UK taxes on family businesses.
