Unicaja Chairman José Sevilla to Step Down, Declines Re-election at 2027 AGM

José Sevilla, chairman of Unicaja Banco SA, will step down at the end of his term and not seek re-election, the Málaga-based lender said in a filing with Spain's CNMV. His departure, to be formalized at the ordinary shareholders' meeting scheduled for April 2027, triggers an early activation of the bank's succession plan. Sevilla, former CEO of Bankia, took the chairmanship on April 5, 2024, tasked with restoring stability after the governance crisis stemming from the Liberbank merger. He will continue as non-executive chairman until the AGM, working alongside CEO Isidro Rubiales. The board formally recorded its gratitude for his "valuable services." The transition follows a period of executive calm after the turbulent March 2023 vote, when the "Málaga bloc" and the Unicaja Banking Foundation rejected two independent director ratifications.
