Agfa-Gevaert to Merge Digital Printing Unit with Electronics for Imaging

Agfa-Gevaert (AGFB.BR) said Sept. 28 it signed a definitive agreement to combine its Digital Printing Solutions business with U.S.-based Electronics for Imaging (EFI), consolidating two inkjet printing technology suppliers. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The company did not specify the ownership split, deal value, or expected closing date. The tie-up folds Agfa's digital printing operations into EFI, a portfolio company of investment firm Siris Capital. Antwerp-based Agfa-Gevaert is listed on Euronext Brussels. The deal marks a further narrowing of its business, following its earlier exit from offset printing plates and other legacy operations. Investors did not receive guidance on proceeds or cost savings. The agreement remains subject to customary closing conditions.
