Origin Lab raises $8 million to license video game data for AI world models

Origin Lab raised $8 million in seed funding to build a marketplace that lets video game companies license digital assets and footage to AI labs developing world models for robotics and physical-space simulation. Lightspeed Ventures led the round, with participation from SV Angel, Eniac, Seven Stars and FPV. Angel investors included Twitch co-founder Kevin Lin and Cruise founder Kyle Vogt. Origin Lab plans to convert game assets into usable training data through processes ranging from rendering runs to automated walkthrough footage. The company is targeting AI developers including AMI Labs and World Labs, as demand rises for licensed, high-quality data beyond text and web video. The market has drawn scrutiny after OpenAI’s Sora model appeared in December 2024 to reproduce footage resembling video games and streamers, raising questions about training data sources.
