Roelof Botha, Sequoia Capital Investor, Joins SpaceX Board
Sequoia Capital senior investor Roelof Botha has joined SpaceX's board of directors as an independent member, effective June 18, 2026. His appointment expands the board to nine members, signaling the world's most valuable private space company's continued efforts to strengthen its governance structure for future growth. Botha, a South Africa native, previously served as PayPal's CFO, overseeing its 2002 IPO and subsequent sale to eBay. He is recognized as a key member of the "PayPal Mafia." After PayPal, Botha joined Sequoia Capital, becoming a prominent venture capital investor with a focus on fintech, healthcare, and cloud software. His portfolio includes investments in Instagram, YouTube, and Tumblr. Sequoia Capital initially invested in SpaceX in 2020. Botha's extensive experience in venture capital, financial management, and corporate governance is expected to contribute to SpaceX's capital allocation, strategic planning, and overall corporate oversight.
