TSX Ends Slightly Lower After Trimming Steep Early Losses

Canada's S&P/TSX Composite Index closed marginally lower on May 27, 2026, as cautious trade dominated the session and investors pared earlier steep declines. The benchmark index mounted a late recovery, erasing most of a morning slide driven by lingering global growth concerns. Energy and financial shares exerted the heaviest drag, while defensive sectors such as utilities and consumer staples lent support. The Canadian dollar was little changed against the U.S. dollar. Trading volumes were light ahead of key economic data releases scheduled later in the week.
