TSX Rebounds from Opening Losses, Led by Energy; Index Climbs 0.1% at Midday

The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX Composite index erased an early decline to trade modestly higher by midday on May 28, 2026, buoyed by gains in energy producers as crude oil prices firmed. The index was up 28.15 points, or 0.1%, at 26,347.82, after falling as much as 0.4% in early deals. The energy sector led the turnaround, climbing 1.2%, while financials also provided support. Materials shares remained under pressure, limiting further upside. The loonie traded at 73.25 U.S. cents. Analysts attributed the reversal to bargain-hunting after the early dip, particularly in energy names. Trading volumes were light ahead of U.S. inflation data due Friday.
