UAE accelerates Fujairah pipeline expansion to bypass Hormuz, double crude export capacity by 2027
The United Arab Emirates will double its crude export capacity that bypasses the Strait of Hormuz by 2027, as Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. accelerates construction of a pipeline to Fujairah amid disruptions from the Iran-related blockade. ADNOC currently operates a 1.5 million-barrel-a-day pipeline from its oil fields to Fujairah on the Gulf of Oman. The route has helped the UAE maintain exports since Iran effectively shut the main Hormuz shipping lane after the war began in late February 2026, though the link carries less than half of ADNOC’s normal export volumes. The expansion follows the UAE’s decision to leave OPEC, freeing it from production limits as it seeks to raise output to meet war-driven demand. The 252-mile pipeline has not been directly hit, but nearby infrastructure has been damaged, including a gas-processing facility near Habshan and repeated attacks affecting shipments at Fujairah port.
