Vestas Launches V182-7.2 MW Turbine With Larger Rotor to Lift Onshore Wind Returns

Vestas unveiled the V182-7.2 MW onshore turbine on Sept. 22, 2026, pairing a 182-meter rotor with the same 7.2-MW rated capacity as its predecessor to raise energy output without increasing nameplate power. The Danish manufacturer said the new model delivers up to 6% more annual energy production than the V172-7.2 MW, depending on site conditions, and can lift capacity factors by as much as 2%. Vestas estimates the design could improve electricity capture prices by up to 3%, since a lower specific rating lets the turbine generate a larger share of its output during low-wind periods when wholesale power prices are often higher. The turbine targets low- to medium-wind sites in Europe, Australia, South Africa and the Americas. It is built on Vestas' existing EnVentus platform, which has more than 15 GW installed across over 25 countries, limiting development risk while raising rotor size and output.
