Viasat, Agilent Surge; Verra Mobility Tumbles on Avis Contract Loss

Several stocks made notable moves this week. Shares of Viasat rose 9.4% on May 26 after the company secured a U.S. Space Force contract. Agilent Technologies jumped 16.1% on May 28 following strong quarterly results. Verra Mobility, however, lost nearly three-quarters of its value on May 27 after its largest customer, Avis Budget Group, canceled a key agreement. Viasat and a partner were awarded a combined $437.7 million contract for the Protected Tactical Satellite-Global program. Agilent reported strong fiscal second-quarter earnings, lifting the life sciences tools company’s stock. Verra Mobility’s service deal with Avis will end in September 2026, triggering the sharp sell-off. Elsewhere, Torrid Holdings rose 5.8% on May 28, buoyed by positive apparel-sector earnings from Burlington Stores and Kohl’s. Cloud security firm Zscaler gained 4.7% on May 28 after Snowflake’s results eased fears of a prolonged selloff in software stocks — the so-called “SaaSpocalypse” that erased about $2 trillion in market value since late 2025 on concerns AI would make subscription software obsolete.
