WallStreetBets Opposes SEC Plan to Ease Quarterly Reporting Rules
WallStreetBets urged the SEC on May 12, 2026, to reject a proposal that would let public companies replace quarterly 10-Q filings with semiannual reporting, arguing the change would weaken transparency for retail investors. The Reddit community, which said it represents about 18 million retail investors, called 10-Q filings “the single most important leveling mechanism” between retail and institutional investors. The SEC proposal would allow companies to choose annually between the current annual report plus three quarterly reports, or an annual report plus one semiannual report. The SEC says the change could reduce compliance costs and shift management focus away from quarterly earnings targets. More than 120 comment letters submitted during the first week of the 60-day public comment period have largely opposed the plan, including from retail investors, financial planners, hedge fund managers and a former SEC attorney. The comment period runs into July 2026, with major institutional investors yet to weigh in.
