Wegmans to Build Refrigerated Distribution Center in Rochester, Consolidate Pottsville Warehouse

Wegmans Food Markets said it will build a temperature-controlled distribution center in its hometown of Rochester, New York, and consolidate general merchandise storage at its Pottsville, Pennsylvania warehouse, in a bid to strengthen its supply chain and cut reliance on third-party providers. The new refrigerated facility will handle fresh produce, meat, seafood, deli and restaurant food. Construction and opening timelines are undetermined, the company said. Wegmans will also relocate its return center within Rochester. Goods consolidation in Pottsville is expected in spring 2027. Wegmans called its current general merchandise center, its oldest leased distribution facility, inadequate for future needs. The company said the changes will not result in layoffs and that it will work with affected employees during the transition. Wegmans operates 114 stores along the East Coast.
