Xi pledges wider China access as Trump meets CEOs from Tesla, Nvidia and Apple

Chinese President Xi Jinping told U.S. business leaders on May 14, 2026, that “China’s door will only open wider” as President Donald Trump began a two-day visit focused on market access, trade frictions and geopolitical risks. Tesla (TSLA) CEO Elon Musk, Nvidia (NVDA) CEO Jensen Huang and Apple (AAPL) CEO Tim Cook attended events at Beijing’s Great Hall of the People. A White House official said Trump and Xi discussed expanding economic cooperation and market access for U.S. companies. The upbeat tone came despite unresolved disputes over tariffs, rare earth minerals, Taiwan and U.S. concerns about intellectual property theft, forced technology transfers and regulatory limits in China. The White House is expected to announce a U.S.-China “board of trade” to manage disputes, though it remains unclear whether the countries will extend a trade truce set to expire in fall 2026. Raymond James said expectations for major deliverables from the meeting remained low.
