NVIDIA CEO Huang Names GMI Cloud, Affiliate of HSMC (3312-TW), at GTC Keynote
NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang specifically named Taiwan-based GMI Cloud during his GTC keynote on June 1, 2026, signaling the island's expanding role in the global AI infrastructure buildout. Huang, detailing the emergence of AI Clouds and AI Factories worldwide, told the audience, “Here in Taiwan, GMI.” GMI Cloud, founded by Yeh Wei-yen of the founding family behind chip designer Realtek (2379-TW), is an affiliate and strategic AI computing rental partner of chip distributor HSMC (3312-TW). HSMC has said it expects the revenue contribution from AI rental services to gradually increase this year as its GPU assets convert to steady income streams. In his speech, Huang listed AI cloud operators in South Korea, India, Singapore, and Indonesia before singling out Taiwan, drawing applause. He stressed that building AI Clouds requires a complete computing stack — from chips and systems to software and developer ecosystems — a capability NVIDIA provides. The mention underscores how Taiwanese firms are moving beyond manufacturing into downstream AI application services.
