Nvidia Rises 2.3% as Trump-Xi Summit Raises Hopes for China AI Chip Deal
Nvidia shares closed at $227.38 on Monday, Sept. 21, 2026, up 2.3% and about 19% year-to-date, as investors anticipate a Trump-Xi summit that could ease US restrictions on AI chip sales to China. The stock remains below its record close of $235.74 set on May 14. The Trump administration has said it will allow Nvidia to ship H200 AI chips to approved Chinese customers, with 25% of related revenue going to the US government. KeyBanc analyst John Vinh estimates China could buy about 1.5 million H200 processors, representing roughly $30 billion in revenue, against a total addressable market of about $50 billion. The main obstacle is Beijing, which has permitted only limited H200 imports over concerns about over-reliance on foreign suppliers. The Financial Times reported in August that ByteDance and Tencent were each allowed about 10,000 H200 chips. CEO Jensen Huang is expected to attend a state dinner for Xi on Thursday. Separately, CFO Colette Kress sold 34,918 shares worth about $7.65 million on Sept. 17 under a prearranged 10b5-1 plan.
