The U.S. has approved about 10 Chinese companies to buy Nvidia Corp. H200 chips, but no deliveries have been completed, Reuters reported, citing sources. Approved buyers include Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. (BABA), Tencent Holdings Ltd., ByteDance and JD.com Inc. (JD), with Lenovo and Foxconn also cleared to participate as distributors. The Commerce Department licenses allow each approved customer to buy as many as 75,000 chips, either directly from Nvidia or through intermediaries, according to the report. The arrangement negotiated by the Trump administration requires the U.S. government to receive 25% of chip sales revenue. To avoid legal restrictions on direct export fees, the chips must first be shipped to U.S. territory before being re-exported to China. Beijing has not yet allowed companies to proceed, amid concerns over security risks and a policy push to support domestic AI chipmakers. Nvidia previously held about 95% of China’s advanced chip market, and China once accounted for 13% of its revenue.
