Novo Nordisk Says Patients Switching to Oral Wegovy Lost 4.1% Body Weight Over Three Months
Novo Nordisk (NVO) reported Sept. 30 that adults with obesity or overweight who switched from injectable weight-loss drugs to its once-daily Wegovy pill continued losing weight, shedding an average 4.1% of body weight — about 8.8 pounds — over three months, per the OCTANE study presented at the European Association for the Study of Diabetes annual meeting in Milan. The study tracked 194 Ro telehealth platform patients moving from Novo's Wegovy injection or Eli Lilly's Zepbound to oral semaglutide. About two in five reached the 5% weight-loss threshold, and the share meeting the clinical obesity definition (BMI 30+) fell to 65.5% from 87.1%. Roughly 75% reported satisfaction with the switch. Novo acknowledged limitations, including self-reported data and potential selection bias. The data arrive as Novo defends its oral obesity franchise against Eli Lilly's newly approved Foundayo tablet. The company said the pill has topped 5 million U.S. prescriptions and holds more than 80% of new oral-segment prescriptions.
