Old Dominion Freight Line (NASDAQ: ODFL) announced Monday a 4.9% general rate increase across various tariff codes effective Oct. 5, 2026, moving its annual hike one month earlier than last year. The less-than-truckload carrier said the increase, an expected average across lanes and weight classes, offsets cost pressures in real estate, equipment, technology, and wages, and funds capital projects. Peers have also accelerated schedules. ArcBest (NASDAQ: ARCB) implemented a 5.9% LTL increase on June 22, roughly six weeks ahead of last year's anniversary. Saia (NASDAQ: SAIA) raised rates 7.1% on July 6, 120 basis points higher and three months earlier than a year ago. The hikes coincide with stronger industrial demand. The ISM Manufacturing PMI registered 54.6 in August, an eighth straight month of expansion and 100 basis points below July's four-year high. The new orders subindex fell 3 percentage points to 53.7, still in growth territory.
