Analysts Tell OPEC+ Hormuz Oil Disruption to Last Through Year-End
Oil analysts told OPEC+ on Monday that supply disruptions from the Strait of Hormuz closure will persist through Dec. 31, even if the waterway reopens promptly, two attendees of a private Vienna meeting said. The chokepoint, which handled 20% of global oil and gas flows, has been effectively blocked since Feb. 28 following the outbreak of war between a US-Israeli alliance and Iran. Consultants warned it will take many months to restore operations to pre-war levels. The assessment echoes Adnoc CEO Sultan Al Jaber’s view that Middle East oil flows won’t fully normalize until well into 2027. Firms briefing the group included S&P Global, Vortexa and Energy Aspects. Brent crude and key fuel prices like gasoline, diesel and jet fuel have surged since the conflict, fueling a new wave of inflation. OPEC’s Economic Commission Board meets Tuesday, and ministers gather online June 7 to evaluate market conditions and production policy.
