Petrobras Finds Second Oil Interval at Morpho Well Offshore Amapá
Petrobras (NYSE: PBR) reported a second oil-bearing interval at its Morpho exploration well in the FZA-M-59 block offshore Amapá, Brazil, deepening evidence of hydrocarbon potential along the Equatorial Margin. The well, designated 1-BRSA-1405-APS, sits in ultra-deepwater at roughly 2,886 meters. The find follows Petrobras' initial hydrocarbon discovery at Morpho in August 2026; deeper drilling was designed to test targets below the first interval. The company identified the new zone using electrical well logs, rock samples and fluid samples. Laboratory analysis is ongoing, while testing of the earlier sample already confirmed good-quality oil. Petrobras said the result adds geological data for assessing petroleum systems in the Foz do Amazonas Basin, a frontier area within the Equatorial Margin. The operator will finish drilling and evaluate formations before judging commercial significance; the discovery is not yet a declaration of commercial reserves. The campaign supports Petrobras' long-term reserve replacement push beyond its pre-salt portfolio.
