Palantir CEO Alex Karp Buys 37,000 Acres of Swedish Forest for $22 Million
Palantir Technologies (PLTR) CEO Alex Karp acquired 37,000 acres (15,000 hectares) of forest land in Sweden's Härjedalen region through Cladonia Skog AB, a company he beneficially owns, for 235 million kronor ($22 million), according to Fortune. The transaction surfaced after local hunters received letters revoking their hunting rights, a condition of the sale. Seller Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget (SCA) said terminating hunting agreements was a "natural part" of the process. Swedish newspaper Tidningen Härjedalen first reported the deal. Cladonia board member Jenny Lopes Da Silva said the owner plans to preserve the land, calling the forest "valuable habitats for plants and animals." Cladonia has also said it intends to carry out forestry and related activities. The purchase follows Karp's $120 million acquisition of a roughly 3,700-acre monastery compound in Colorado's Capitol Creek Valley. The deal comes as European leaders weigh reducing dependence on U.S. technology; Palantir partners with Swedish defense authorities, Swedish police and NATO.
