Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon Predicts 2026 Will Be 'Year of the AI Agent' at Computex

Qualcomm (QCOM) Chief Executive Cristiano Amon declared 2026 as the "Year of the AI Agent" during a June 1, 2026, keynote at Computex in Taipei, signaling a fundamental shift in device architecture. Amon said AI will evolve from responding to prompts into agents that can understand intent, plan, and execute tasks autonomously across personal and work life. The transition will require devices to run AI locally with powerful, energy-efficient CPUs, NPUs, and GPUs, Amon noted, adding that latency and power constraints will be major engineering hurdles. He pointed to a massive installed base of 6 billion smartphones, 2 billion personal AI devices, 2 billion PCs, and 500 million connected cars as the endpoints for this AI-agent ecosystem.
