Samsung to Double Exynos Chip Use in Galaxy S27, Intensifying Shift Away from Qualcomm (QCOM)
Samsung Electronics plans to significantly increase the use of its in-house Exynos processors in the upcoming Galaxy S27 series, set for launch in the first half of 2027, marking a major acceleration in its strategy to reduce reliance on Qualcomm (QCOM). The supply proportion for Exynos-powered Galaxy S27 units will double to 50% from 25% in the previous generation. The Exynos 2700 chip, built on Samsung's advanced 2-nanometer process, aims to enhance power efficiency and performance. Analysts view the move as a cost-control measure, as soaring 2nm wafer manufacturing expenses and rising DRAM prices squeeze profit margins for smartphone makers. Samsung’s long-term goal is to equip all Galaxy products with Exynos processors. Despite this competitive shift in chip design, the relationship remains complex, with Qualcomm confirming advanced discussions with Samsung for 2nm chip fabrication to diversify its supply chain beyond TSMC.
