Global Bonds Retreat as Oil Eases; Asia Stocks Mixed Ahead of Trump-Xi Talks

Global debt markets weakened on September 24, 2026, as Japan's 10-year government bond yield surged 8 basis points to 3.06%, a 30-year high, tracking a steep U.S. Treasury selloff. The 30-year Japanese yield rose 5.5 bps to 4.12%, while the U.S. 10-year held at 5.11%. Asian equities diverged: the MSCI Asia ex-Japan index fell 0.64%, Japan's Nikkei 225 rose 1.73%, and Australia's S&P/ASX 200 dropped 1.2% to a three-month low. Investors weighed Middle East tensions and a Trump-Xi summit, where Washington and Beijing may extend an 11-month trade truce. Brent crude fell 1% to $102.05 a barrel; WTI slipped 0.74% to $91.48. Spot gold gained 0.35% to $4,301.89 an ounce. The dollar index eased 0.04% to 101.09, the yen strengthened 0.24% to 157.91, and bitcoin edged up 0.07% to $84,288.53.
