Bank of England policymaker Alan Taylor said on September 29, 2026, that the central bank's annual survey of firms' 2027 wage expectations, due in January, will be a critical data point in deciding whether to raise interest rates. Taylor said he sees no compelling evidence yet that the BoE should raise rates, despite widespread expectations among economists and investors for a hike after the next meeting in November. He added that he will also watch preliminary survey results available at the December meeting. A reading at or below the prior survey level of slightly above 3% would reassure him that inflation pressures remain contained.
