Scholastic to Acquire Cottage Door Press for $71 Million; SCHL Shares Jump 7.7% Pre-Market

Scholastic Corp. (SCHL) announced on Sept. 29, 2026, that it agreed to acquire U.S. children's publisher Cottage Door Press for approximately $71 million, expanding its early childhood book business into board and novelty formats. The Nasdaq-traded shares rose 7.68% in pre-market trading to $36.16, following a 3.80% gain in Monday's regular session. Scholastic said the deal should drive revenue growth and adjusted EBITDA in fiscal 2027 and turn accretive in its second year, with synergies expected over time. Cottage Door will be folded into Scholastic's Children's Book Group while retaining its publishing team and creative identity. The transaction, funded through cash and borrowings, is expected to close by year-end.
