Morphotonics Raises €40M to Scale Nanoimprint Lithography Into Data Center Optics
Dutch nanoimprint lithography startup Morphotonics said on September 22, 2026, it raised €40 million to scale production of optical components for smart glasses and expand into co-packaged optics for data centers. The extended round, begun in 2024, was backed by 3M Ventures, Innovation Industries, BOM, Invest-NL and the European Innovation Council Fund, with participation from family office Ernij Next and the European Investment Bank. Morphotonics, which spent 12 years developing its stamp-based process for waveguides used in AR displays, employs 60 people, up from roughly 30 in September 2024. CEO Hugo Da Silva said a new machine under construction will produce more than 6 million waveguides annually and is expected to ship early next year. The company has deployed 10 to 15 systems globally and targets 50 deployments within two to three years. About 90% of revenue comes from hardware sales, with the remainder from licensing. Manufacturing is concentrated in Asia, with teams in China, Taiwan, South Korea and the U.S.
