Shopify Inc. (SHOP) shares fell after its first-quarter 2026 earnings call, with investors focusing on a widening GAAP loss and the cost of artificial intelligence investments despite revenue exceeding Wall Street expectations. Management said revenue growth was driven by rapid adoption of AI-enabled products, stronger international sales and continued traction with larger enterprise merchants. President Harley Finkelstein said AI is now embedded across Shopify’s product suite and internal operations. Shopify traded at $102.91 after the report, down from $127.55 before earnings. Investors are watching whether AI product adoption can improve merchant productivity, whether growth in Europe and Asia-Pacific can continue, and whether management can expand margins while funding AI, fintech offerings and AI-powered sales channels.
